Junior Accountant (Onsite – CT)

ENVIRONMENT:
Our client, a leading global sporting retail group dedicated to providing high-quality sporting goods to enthusiasts worldwide, is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join their team in Cape Town. The Junior Accountant will support the finance department by handling various accounting tasks, working closely with the senior accountant and finance manager to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with international accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, 1-2 years of experience in accounting or finance, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Experience in the retail or sporting goods industry is a plus, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, as well as experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks), is preferred.
 
DUTIES:
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process invoices, payments, and manage accounts receivable and payable.
  • Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • General Ledger: Maintain and update general ledger entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Audit Support: Provide support during internal and external audits, including preparing necessary documentation.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist with tax filings and ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations.
  • Expense Reports: Review and process employee expense reports.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support business decisions.
  • Ad-hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as required by the finance department.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in accounting or finance. Experience in retail or sporting goods industry is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks) is preferred.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of GAAP/IFRS accounting principles and practices.
